What is birria tacos?

Birria tacos, is an utterly traditionally Mexican beef stew, combing spicy, sour, sweet taste altogether. Birria properly creatived by a man named Don Guadalupe Zárate in Tijuana in the ’60s. To make tacos taste better, he added more liquid in it and switched the recipe from goat to beef, then he sold this stew on his street. Gonzalez Brothers made a splash in the food truck scene when they brought birria to Los Angeles in 2015. Instagram helped them get full of followers and gained popularity for birria across the country.

Birria Ingredients


•2 Pounds Short Ribs

•2 Carrots

•1 White onion and 1 Garlic

•3 Pounds Chuck Roast (Cut into 4 chunks)

1-2 Teaspoons Chili Powder

•2 Teaspoons Cumin, 1 Teaspoon Salt, 1 Teaspoon Oregano, and 5 Bay Leave

•15 Corn Tortillas

•7 Guajillo Peppers


•Large Oven

•Large Pot


        • Broth
        1. Put short rib, roast, onion, carrot, garlic, and peppers into a large pot and cover full of water.
        2. Add cumin, salt, and oregano into the pot and bring to a boil.
        3. Skim the top of the pot to remove impurities after 30 mins, take the peppers out of the pot, and place them in a food processor.
        4. Add the blended peppers into the pot again and stir to combine.
        5. Simmering for 3 hours, pour the grease into the saucepan when the meat is tender.
        6. This is used for making the tacos if desired. 
        • Tacos
        1. Place tocas on a heated oven, top with the boiled meat and cheese.
        2. Frying them until the taco is crispy and golden. Take the tacos out of the oven when both sides are golden.
        3. Dip the tacos into the broth while eating.
